The citizens who served on the hospital
organizing committee in 1946 had a dream. Their
dream was of a place for healing, for comfort, for
hope... a dream of a new hospital.
With the help of federal Hill-Burton monies for
the construction of
rural hospitals, a city bond issue, and local contributions,
the
citizens realized their dream. In 1951, construction
of a new hospital
neared completion. Community Memorial Hospital (now
Queen of Peace Hospital) opened on February 14,
1952.
The Sisters of St. Benedict have been the sponsoring
organization since 1952 and continue to shape and
guide the Hospital's future. |

There have been many changes since
those early beginnings expansions,
renovations, new technology, and an increase in outpatient
services.
Yet Queen of Peace remains steadfast to its beginnings.
And the
courage, prayers, and laughter observed every day in the
halls of Queen
of Peace testify to the promise of a bright future. |
