Cardiac Rehab
Queen of Peace offers a broad range
of cardiovascular services for various stages of
heart-related diseases from prevention to testing and
rehabilitation.
Following a heart attack or heart surgery, individuals with
cardiovascular disease receive cardiac rehab, a comprehensive,
personalized approach to help them regain strength and improve
the quality of their lives through education.
The first phase of cardiac rehab starts within days following
your admission to Queen of Peace Hospital.
Specially trained nurses will monitor and supervise a patient's
tolerance to increasing levels of exercise. Exercise sessions
include arm and leg exercises; walking and biking; and stair
climbing. While hospitalized, patients also begin cardiac
education and receive home exercise guidelines.
The second phase of cardiac rehabilitation starts soon after
Hospital discharge. Closely monitored exercise sessions, designed
to help patients regain your strength and confidence, are
held three times a week for 12 weeks. Exercise sessions include
muscle strengthening as well as flexibility and endurance
training. Other features of our program include heart rhythm,
blood pressure, and medication monitoring; individual and
group support; and cardiac education.
This program's emphasis is threefold:
— Exercise
Education
Support.
